Enrique Jerez Abajo is one of the authors of the recently published Guía de Arquitectura de Burgos, 1925-2025.
This book, published by Fundación Arquia and promoted by Arquia Banca, is the most comprehensive research on this topic published to date. It is also the result of several years of work by a large group of architects.
It has been prepared with the purpose of offering the reader -whether citizen, visitor, or scholar- the opportunity to discover a wide group of valuable unknown architectures that, during the last hundred years, have been built in this city, better known for its historical heritage.
Over the last century, these modern and contemporary architectures have shaped the urban landscape. They have defined new ways of living, of engaging with public space, of intervening in existing structures, of connecting distant historical periods, of reflecting the arrival of technological advancements, and of representing common institutions, both public and private.
Although this publication offers a portrait based on specific interventions, its global study helps to form a comprehensive urban idea of the city. This collection not only reflects how these works were conceived and built, but also -thanks to a recent photographic work- their current state and the passage of time.
This guide is also useful to document those works that, despite their recognized value, are now altered or even lost, with the aim of reclaiming a part of the collective memory of Burgos society. It also includes two introductory texts that provide context for the featured architecture, along with two concluding texts: one dedicated to an imagined but unbuilt Burgos, and the other to a planned Burgos yet to be realized.
